ser
to be — permanent qualities, identity, origin, time. Irregular: soy, eres, es.
estar
to be — location, temporary states, ongoing actions. Irregular: estoy, estás, está.
tener
to have. Also used for age: tengo veinte años.
hacer
to do, to make. Also weather: hace frío.
ir
to go. Irregular: voy, vas, va. Ir a + infinitive is the near future.
poder
to be able to, can. Stem-changing o→ue: puedo.
querer
to want, to love. Stem-changing e→ie: quiero.
saber
to know a fact or how to do something. Irregular first person: sé.
conocer
to know a person or place, to be familiar with. Irregular first person: conozco.
decir
to say, to tell. Irregular: digo, dices, dice.
ver
to see. Irregular first person: veo.
dar
to give. Irregular first person: doy.
venir
to come. Irregular: vengo, vienes, viene.
poner
to put, to place. Irregular first person: pongo.
salir
to leave, to go out. Irregular first person: salgo.
llegar
to arrive. Regular, but spelling changes to llegué in the preterite.
pensar
to think. Stem-changing e→ie: pienso.
volver
to return. Stem-changing o→ue: vuelvo.
seguir
to follow, to continue. Stem-changing e→i: sigo.
gustar
to be pleasing to. Used backwards from English: me gusta el libro = the book pleases me.
