ん
n
The は particle
Written は but pronounced "wa" when it marks the topic of a sentence. 私は = watashi wa.
The へ particle
Written へ but pronounced "e" when it marks direction. 学校へ = gakkou e.
The を particle
Written を but pronounced "o". It marks the direct object and has no other job.
ん, the lone consonant
The only kana that is a consonant by itself, and the only one no Japanese word begins with.
Dakuten and handakuten
Two strokes voice a kana — か ka becomes が ga, さ sa becomes ざ za, は ha becomes ば ba. A small circle makes は into ぱ pa.
Small ゃ ゅ ょ
A full-size kana plus a small ya, yu or yo is one syllable: き + ゃ = kya, し + ょ = sho.
